Do you like to dive or snorkel? I’ll bet you have used those disposable 35mm underwater cameras, haven’t you? They are good for taking photos up close and in shallow water but not good for deepwater. What you really need to create and save those underwater memories is an underwater digital camera.

Underwater digital cameras are used by divers all over the world and not just for personal use. Those who make their living from the ocean like marine photographers, biologists, and scientists use underwater digital cameras to film and study marine life. The photographers sell their videos and make a good living from it, the scientists use them to study and learn more about the creatures they are interested in. You are more than likely in none of those categories, probably like me, you are just a lover of the water. I thoroughly enjoy being able to bring back evidence of what I have seen underwater with a camera.

When you are looking for an underwater digital camera you must realize that they are rare and hard to find. Cameras as a rule, being electronic, can’t take the high pressure associated with depths reached in diving even if they are waterproof. What you will find in most cases is a specialized casing produced specifically for a digital camera to be used underwater which in essence will turn your regular digital camera into an underwater one.

Using a camera underwater is quite a bit different than shooting on dry land. Here are a few things that you need to keep in mind to get the best results from your underwater photography experiences.

Light is diffused more and more the deeper you dive so the images you are filming will be darker than what you would have above water. Using white balance will help with this and also give you more natural colors. Another thing to remember is that your pictures will end up larger due to the magnification effect underwater so bear this in mind when filming. Also be sure not to use a built in flash as this will cause your pictures to be blurry, use an external one instead.

Test your camera before diving with it by submerging the camera within its waterproof case in water for a few seconds and checking to see if there are any leaks in the protective underwater case. Take special precautions that you don’t get so much as a hair or a grain of sand in the seal area because if you do I assure you the case will leak.

You can get optional lenses for your digital camera that will help you take better pictures; especially essential are the Macro lenses that will allow you to get close up shots without scaring away your subject.

When you finish your dive or snorkel trip always rinse off the case good and set it out to dry, especially if you have been in saltwater.

Google Tech Talks August 27, 2008 ABSTRACT The Undersea Voyager Project is a multi phase program developed by undersea explorer, Capt. Scott Cassell, founder and CEO of Undersea Voyager Project (a non profit research, and undersea exploration company). The Undersea Voyager Project is designed to utilize manned submersibles to take a physical look at the first 100-1000 feet of seawater, (which is the largest environment on Earth) on a five year continuing mission to explore the unseen as they circumnavigate the Earth underwater. The UVP will break several existing world records and set even more. It has been suggested this project equals man’s first steps on the moon. The focus is on the seas relationship with the global climate, and the discovery of new life. To explore to further man’s knowledge of the most hostile environment on Earth, the deep sea. Scott will speak of this past experiences in undersea marine research (including his work with giant squid), his present work at Undersea Voyager and future plans for ocean exploration. Speaker: Scott Cassell Captain Scott Cassell, President and CEO of Undersea Voyager Project. Since 1977, Scott has accumulated over 12000 hours of drive time. He is a USCG Qualified Submersible Pilot/Captain with over 1200 dives. A former Advanced Diving Medical Technician Instructor (1 of 10 in the USA), Commercial Diving Instructor, and Hyperbaric Medical Technician Instructor he taught for years at the College Of Oceaneering.
Throughout the game, you will get emails in your pda from people who need your help. Some might need pictures of certain fishes and others just want a diving guide to show them a fish they’ve been wanting to see. You’re not required to do those ‘missions’ but I suggest you do them anyway to get items like the underwater pen or diving gears.

Once you’re underwater in Endless Ocean, it’s a whole different world down there. You’ll encounter lots of fishes and other animals. I even saw stuff I never knew existed. What animal you get to see will depend on where you dive and there are enough different animals and diving spots to keep you busy for hours. Every animal that you encounter can be interacted with by poking them or petting them and if you interact with them long enough, you will find out their names. A couple of them will even become your partners and swim with you.

Encountering weird sea life is just part of the fun in Endless Ocean. Scattered around the sea of Manoa Lai are rare artifacts for you to discover. Some artifacts are broken and require you to find parts of it to piece together. The other thing I enjoy doing in Endless Ocean is taking pictures. You only get 20 exposures which I find to be less for those long dives. After developing the pictures you get to place them in an album to show off to your friends later, or just to look at by yourself if no one else finds the game interesting.

The life that evolved underwater has been of constant interest for people from all times and places. The rivers, lakes seas and oceans have been always been regarded with deep interest and profound admiration by the human race, unable to decipher the secrets carefully hidden by them.

Yet, the development of the technology has provided men with proper means of unveiling some of the mysteries from underwater. With the help of waterproof cameras and appropriate technical equipment, the specialists have started the conquest of the most attractive and at the same time the most dangerous environment: the underwater.

Photographs about the fascinating life from underwater have appeared and are available to all the people who are curious to see what kinds of animals live deep in the seas and oceans of the world. The pictures, showing animals, plants and even landscape from the underworld are considered by the passionate to be much more spectacular than any picture taken on the ground or in air.

However, the beauty of the underwater was not the only thing that was exploited with the help of the new technology. The seas and oceans were discovered to be important sources of oil and gas, as well as other kinds of veins that have brought fortunes to the companies that have exploited them.

Other spectacular things that can be found underwater are the ruins of the towns and villages that have been covered by water. The historians have found on the bottom of the seas and oceans traces of ancient civilizations. Their uniqueness has fascinated scientists and the public opinion at the same time.

As it can easily be seen there are a lot of interesting and surprising things to be seen underwater. An advantage of the present days is the fact that now these beautiful things are available not only to the specialist, but also to men, women and even children from all around the world. The courses of scuba-diving have precisely this purpose, of showing to the normal people the wonderful life and landscape hidden underwater. This kind of activity has become very popular nowadays, as the images seen in the water cannot be described in words.
Looking to get some great underwater photos? You may or may not know that some locations are more known for lovely photos than others. Visiting some of these stunning locations will get you some beautiful underwater pictures for your collection. If underwater photos are a new hobby or a long-time passion, consider taking a vacation to one of these popular destinations. You’ll be glad you did, coming home with underwater camera photos to last you a lifetime.

When visiting a “hot spot” plan your vacation practically. Try to plan at least several photo opportunities. We all know that the “perfect shot” doesn’t happen immediately; sometimes it takes several shots to get exactly what you’re hoping for. Weather conditions can change quickly. The opportunity to go out and take pictures underwater several times is ideal as you’ll see so much more on the ocean floor.

Do remember to spend time with family and friends if traveling with others. No sense in having your travel companions pout that you aren’t being fun on a vacation. Sometimes it’s easier to visit a “hot spot” by yourself but traveling solo can get a bit lonely, so only you can make the decision which choice is best for you.

The Florida coastline is a very popular place to visit if you are seeking a U.S.A. destination. Florida boasts some of the world’s best beaches with breathtaking views. Known for countless fish and sea mammals, you’ll find many beautiful things to take photos of when you choose a Florida beach to visit for underwater photos.

Best of all, for U.S.A. travelers the trip isn’t too far. Some may even be able to drive to Florida for a day or short weekend trip. Sand sharks, sand dollars and starfish are some of the beautiful ocean life you’ll find while exploring the Florida coastline.

Just a bit further into the water you’ll find the charming Bahamas. Another great spot for underwater photos. Take your camera kit to the Bahamas and you’re almost guaranteed to have a great time. Just be sure not to travel during hurricane season, in the U.S.A. springtime. The Bahamas is known for turquoise colored waters and many tiny islands and one large island. Lots of colorful fish and stunning coral make this an underwater photo taker’s paradise.

Hawaii is another popular spot located in the U.S. ideal for taking photos in the water. Hawaii is well known around the world for having several active and dormant volcanoes. This does affect sea life and the ocean floor, so simply be aware of what is going on with the volcanoes as you plan your trip. The volcanic ash on the ocean floor itself can be a unique sight to photograph.

You won’t see that in many places, especially with such lovely crystal clear water to take great. Hawaii’s warm waters make it home to many tropical fish and sea mammals as well.

Visiting a “hot spot” is certain to bring you many stunning underwater photos you can’t get in other locations. Remember to research the area you’re visiting ahead of time so you can visit these special locations to see certain sea life that is of great interest to you.
